COLCHESTER RADIO AMATEURS

21st February 2008 at Colchester Institute

Our Guest for the evening was Steve Southey from Skyview Systems, this is a company based in Sudbury who supply meteorological, hydWXrological and marine instruments to commercial, civil, avionic and military authorities worldwide.

Steve had brought along a range of products including handheld anemometers and wireless weather stations, several questions were asked from the floor including advice on how to best site the remote sensors for weather stations.

It was noted that as Radio Amateurs we take more than passing interest in the weather and in particular look out for high pressure due it its possible effects on propagation.

Steve explained that you could programme a system to give you alerts in the event of a rise in air pressure tipping you off that this may be a good time to check the bands.

We thank Steve for an interesting and informative talk, and for the goodies he brought along.
