Welcome to the Colchester Radio Amateurs website

The Colchester Radio Amateurs was formed in 1963 by a group of Tutors and Students at the Colchester Technical College (now the Colchester Institute). Meetings were held in the Radio laboratory and concentrated on practical work and measurement, taking advantage of the wide range of equipment available and some expert help.

Membership increased steadily and the range of club activities expanded as a result. In addition to our regular monthly meetings we also

Participate in contests including HF & VHF with our VHF Contest Group participating in all the major RSGB contests from their Contest site at Walton On The Naze.
Offer training for Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Licences
Produce a monthly newsletter CRA News which is also free to non members via email. Please see our Newsletter page for more info.
"Amateur Radio encompasses all methods of Radio Communication from working through satellites, bouncing signals off the moon, microwave links, television, to simple radio contacts. You can take part in radio contesting, radio orienteering, contact remote islands and countries around the world. You can even talk to the astronauts on the International Space Station!"
Radio Society of Great Britain.

Our program of talks on amateur radio topics utilises expertise available in the club and from other clubs in the area.

We meet on the third Thursday of the month at Colchester St Helena School Sheepen Road Colchester CO3 3LE. All our meetings start at 7:30pm.
